Tribute to
Ryuichi Sakamoto
A plural composer, a committed and versatile artist, a humanist and a pioneer of electronic music, a pianist and orchestrator of the highest order, Ryuichi Sakamoto left an indelible mark through his sensibility. He gifted us with some of the most beautiful film scores of our time, while also cultivating a creativity entirely his own—one that consistently rejected commercial shortcuts and easy paths.
Rooted both in the classical tradition and the electronic world, trained at an art school and an accomplished pianist, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in 2023, leaves behind a vast body of work that has profoundly shaped not only music, but cinema as well. The Last Emperor and Little Buddha by Bernardo Bertolucci, Taboo and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence by Nagisa Oshima, High Heels by Pedro Almodóvar, The Revenant by Alejandro González Iñárritu, or Snake Eyes by Brian De Palma—each resonates like a timeless melody in the hearts of cinephiles.
The recital Tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto is performed, from official scores, by Benyamin Nuss, a pianist endorsed by many composers in Japan, his adopted country: Masashi Hamauzu, Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Yoko Kanno, among others.
Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music is not meant merely to be performed; it must be understood, absorbed, and re-expressed in harmony with the composer’s philosophical and musical thinking. This journey through the minimalist worlds and colors of Ryuichi Sakamoto offers a renewed encounter with the most beautiful interpretations of his greatest compositions.
